Scott M. Rovner, DVM
Dr. Rovner founded Roscoe Village Animal Hospital in 2005, achieving a lifetime goal of creating a place where he and his staff could provide the kind of medical care consistent with his passion for animal well-being. He spent many long hours conceiving the hospital’s design and planning for the kind of facility that would provide the best available care to patients and clients. He continues to find ways of improving Roscoe Village Animal Hospital and prides himself on staying abreast of cutting-edge medical ideas and technologies. One of his more recent acquisitions is an in-hospital stem cell laboratory that is providing therapies for previously untreatable medical conditions. Dr. Rovner graduated from The University of Iowa with a B.A. in Biology. He received his degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University. He has been practicing in the Roscoe Village – Lakeview area since graduating from veterinary school. Dr. Rovner is a medical consultant for Medivet Biological stem cell company. He has developed groundbreaking treatments using stem cells and platelet-rich plasma for various diseases in dogs and cats. He is involved in the local community through speaking at schools, community programs, and sponsoring various animal fundraisers. Dr. Rovner is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association, the Humane Society American Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Feline Practitioner Association. In his spare time, he enjoys boating, exercising, reading veterinary journals, and playing tennis.
Phil Garrison, DVM
Dr. Phil Garrison grew up in Arkansas and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Hendrix College with a bachelor’s degree in English. He was a latecomer to the veterinary world as he discovered that he enjoyed working with animals while doing medical research with pigs at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital after college. He worked as a veterinary technician in Chicago for six years, during which time he met his future wife, Melissa. He finally made the leap to become a veterinarian by moving to Massachusetts to attend Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. After graduation, he returned to Chicago to work at Roscoe Village Animal Hospital. Dr. Garrison’s professional interests include dentistry, internal medicine, and client education.
Dr. Garrison and his wife have a son named Max, a dog named Steve, and a cat named Jenna. When he finds the time, Phil likes to write and record music with his friends, cook for the family, read voraciously, bicycle around the city, attend concerts, and travel with his family.
Juliet Turkel, DVM
Dr. Juliet Turkel is excited to join the Roscoe Village Animal Hospital team. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology. While trekking through the northern hillsides of Thailand, she realized that Veterinary Medicine was her true calling. She soon graduated from the University of Illinois Veterinary Medicine program with honors. She is proud to be a member of the AVMA and CVMA. Her clinical interests include internal medicine, neurology, and orthopedics. When she is not taking care of patients, she is busy raising her three amazing kids and playing with her dog, River. When she has free time she enjoys writing, snowboarding, traveling, and listening to live music.
Kirsten Wong, DVM
Welcome to the Roscoe Village Animal Hospital team!
Dr. Wong was born and raised in the city of Chicago. In September of 2020, she graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts. Her favorite subjects in school were exotic animal medicine, small animal surgery, and diagnostic imaging. She was president of the Zoological, Exotics, and Wildlife Club. She also participated in the Emergency Club. While on St. Kitts. Dr. Wong enjoyed taking her adopted ‘Coconut Retriever,’ Tuna, to the beach or for a run on the Marriott Golf Course between studying for classes and participating in club activities.
When Dr. Wong is not working, she enjoys traveling the world and volunteering at animal rehabilitation centers internationally. Her favorite places to visit are Hong Kong and the Phi Phi Islands in Thailand. Locally, she enjoys trying new restaurants in the Chicagoland area.
